Bobby Jackson
Memorial
Wesley Foundation
On August 23rd, 2004, The Arkansas Tech
University Wesley Foundation lost a great friend and leader when
Bobby Jackson was killed in a bicycle accident. Bobby had come
through the Wesley Ministry and then was added to the staff as
Wesley's worship leader after graduation
Bobby touched countless lives with
his ministry in the years he shared with us. Because of his
passion for Christ and love for mission we dedicate this project
in his memory.
This is a unique opportunity to
begin a ministry that is much larger than ourselves. In Bobby's
own words, together with the Congolese we will strive to "Live
Amazed."
In the spring of 2003 a Wesley
alumn traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to document
the condition of the people and what the church is doing to help
them. He returned with and inspiring tale of rebirth from the
ashes of war and how a village named Kamina has become a light
in a country that has known little but darkness.
Churches and schools are being
built. New farming techniques are being taught and nutritious
food is being grown to feed the children of the abandoned
children's home. The home currently houses hundreds of orphans
who have lost their parents to war and disease.
In September of 2004 the
University of Kamina was opened with the hope that it may soon
have an enrollment of one thousand young adults.
But it seems they're still
missing one thing...
...a
Wesley Foundation
With your help, we intend to
change that...
Not long after the return of
the former student, the Wesley staff and board began working to
create a solution to this problem. By expanding the ministry of
transforming young adults into devoted disciples of Jesus Christ
and creating leaders in the church and communities we hope to
help the Congolese take the next step in transformation. We plan
to do this by opening the first Wesley Foundation on the
continent of Africa.
Our vision is to build a Wesley
Foundation by Kamina University and help start a minstry that
links the university with the abandoned children's home. By
connecting university students with the orphans, we hope to help
these young adults become faithful disciples of Christ by
teaching compassion and leadership through mentoring children
who desperately need them.
But first we need to do a few
things...
-
Build the Wesley Foundation
-
Equip the building
-
Fund the staffing of the
ministry
-
Launch the ministry
You can help make a difference
in the lives of countless people by helping Wesley with this
mission.
